Open Auditions for the Bach Institute!

It’s hard to believe, but this is the fifth year that the Bach Institute, a collaboration between Emmanuel Music, Winsor Music, and Oberlin College, has been in operation! Exciting enough that it’s our fifth anniversary, but even more exciting is the fact that we are holding competitive auditions for the first time this year!

The Bach Institute is now open to college students, graduate students and young professionals from all over the world. There are openings for: soprano, mezzo-soprano, tenor, baritone/bass-baritone, violin, oboe, flute, cello, and keyboard. (Keyboard players should know or expect to learn figured bass.) If you or someone you know is interested in applying, please visit our web page, which has all of the information you could ask for and an online application and audition form. Singers are asked to provide an mp3 of any Bach aria in German, and instrumentalists must submit a single mp3 containing both a fast and slow movement of any instrumental Bach work. Applications are due by October 7, 2015.

All of the collaborators on the Bach Institute are incredibly proud of this program. It provides students and young professionals with the opportunity to explore and perform Bach cantata arias. For nearly three weeks in January, students participate in the weekly cantatas at Emmanuel Church, study Bach cantata arias and perform them on outreach concerts in Boston and the surrounding area. The culmination of the Bach Institute is a public concert at Emmanuel Church.
