“The Winsor Music Chamber Series is an essential part of our musical life in Boston. Central to its mission has been the presentation of new pieces, often commissioned for the concerts, amid unusual older repertoire, all splendidly played, in an attractive acoustical space. The atmosphere is warm and informal, with a unique sense of occasion, something conceived with love and imagination.” — John Harbison
The Winsor Music Chamber Series was founded in 1996 to present outstanding chamber musicians in programs that link the old and the new. Our subscription series concerts typically include one contemporary piece (often the premiere of an American work), carefully matched with music from the past. Since its inception, the Winsor Music Chamber Series has presented world or Boston premieres of over 20 works.
Winsor Music concerts are given at the Follen Community Church in Lexington and St. Paul’s Church in Brookline, Massachusetts. These churches are perfect venues – the intimacy and superb acoustics of the sanctuaries are ideal for chamber music. Our chamber concerts are informal, and we strive to break down the barriers between our performers and audience, while nurturing a warm sense of community.
Winsor Music is frequently invited to present concerts at other venues in New England, including Harvard and Brandeis Universities, Wellesley College, and the James Library in Norwell, as well as private house concerts.
